Abstract

This article examines the pivotal role of the Sierra Leone Teachers’ Union (SLTU) in the nation-building process of Sierra Leone. Through a mixed-methods approach, the study assesses the SLTU’s contributions, challenges, and impact on the educational sector. Findings indicate that while the union is crucial for advocating teacher’s welfare and influencing policy, its effectiveness is often hampered by political interference, poor working conditions, and internal challenges. The study concludes that a synergistic relationship between the government and the SLTU is essential for achieving quality education and sustainable national development.
