Evaluation of an Intermediate English Textbook Taught at Palestinian Universities: A Quantitative Study
Abstract
This study aims at evaluating the English Language Skills1 taught at Palestine Ahliya University as perceived by instructors at four Universities that use the same textbook (Palestine Ahliya University, Al-Qudes Open University, Al-Istqlal University and Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie). The study also examines the role of gender, years of experience and university, on the degree of evaluating the chosen textbook. To achieve the purpose of the study, the researcher used a 37-item. The questionnaires were distributed amongst the sample of study was chosen randomly which consisted of 27 male and female instructors who teach English Language Skills1 at four universities during the second semester of the academic year 2022-2023. The results showed that the total degrees of the five domains (content, grammar & vocabulary, activities & exercises, the physical appearance & attractiveness and technology integration) scored high degrees. The results also showed that there were no statistically significant differences at (α ≤ 0.05) in the degrees of the instructors’ evaluation of the English Language Skills I textbook due to gender and years of experiences. On the other hand, there was a statistically difference in the content domain due to university in favor Al- Quds Open University. It can be concluded that the textbook is suitable for Palestinians students, their culture and levels. Since findings showed most of participants’ responses scored high degrees, the researcher recommended using this textbook at all universities in Palestine after considering the suggested modifications.Downloads
